Lionel Messi asks Barcelona to make four major signings

Argentina international and Barcelona captain Lionel Messi wants the club to make four big signings before committing to a new deal.

Lionel Messi has been absolutely crucial for Barcelona this season as well and his numbers are reflective of that. Inevitably, he is their top scorer in La Liga Santander with 13 goals to his name and has even chipped in with a number of assists for his teammates. The Catalans are now keen on tying Messi down to another contract.

Messi’s father, Jorge, has reportedly already had talks with the Barca board and in particular, the club’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu. It looks like all terms and conditions regarding the finances have been agreed, but Diario GOL claims that Lionel Messi will only officially sign the new deal if the Blaugrana meet his demands of signing four players.
Samuel Umtiti is almost certainly going to leave the Camp Nou in one of the next two transfer windows while Gerard Pique has also suggested that the club needs to start finding a younger central defender. Messi wants the club to pursue a move for one of Milan Skriniar or Kalidou Koulibaly, both of whom are in big demand and expensive.
Next, Lionel Messi is not happy with the right backs that the Catalans have in their squad right now. Nelson Semedo is just a let down from all perspectives, while Sergi Roberto does not contribute much. Messi wants someone on the right to be as good as Jordi Alba is on the left and it seems that Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich is his preferred choice. Barcelona are also in need of signing a replacement for the ageing Sergio Busquets. Currently, there is nobody who is naturally a defensive midfielder in Ernesto Valverde’s squad and it has been Arturo Vidal and Frenkie de Jong who have been taking turns in switching to an impeded role. Messi’s choice is unknown as yet.
Finally, he has asked the club to sign Kylian Mbappe, but that transfer seems to be out of Barca’s reach. Mbappe’s dream is to play for Real Madrid and he has not liked the fact that the Blaugrana overlooked his signing in 2017. However, there are alternatives like Salah or Sancho who Barca can pursue as a replacement for Messi.
